Post-Copenhagen blues?
Now we will see whether the predictions made by Anthony Kelly come to pass. Certainly the clowns at Stop Climate Chaos have not followed any of his advice. There was absolutely NO talk of “what do we do after” the Wave.
And what was the Wave? Say the organisers were right, and it was 50,000 people. So what? Did it get ANY energy going? Was it anything other than a smugathon? Did it educate anyone about anything? Did it create local links? No, no, no and no.
No, because marches can’t do those thing, except in exceptional circumstances, and with exceptional efforts to make those answers into yeses.
And guess what, the Stop Climate Chaos lot will almost certainly try to pull the same shit next year “The Mexican Wave”? anyone.
Three banalities:
1) Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is a sign of madness.
2) Marches. Don’t. Build. Social. Movements. If they did, the SWP would be running the country.
3) Mobilising and Movement-Building are not the same thing. Often they are even in conflict with each other.
